Sri Lanka keen to attract Jordanian investors
Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Mahen Dayananda told The Sunday Times FT that Sri Lanka would get an opportunity to attract more investments from the Middle East

Sri Lanka is to explore the possibility of attracting Jordan investors to set up joint industrial ventures in the island for cement, low cost housing, horticulture, and infra –structure development.
The Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) has already made arrangements to establish contacts with the Jordan Chamber Commerce towards this end. Chamber President Nawaz Rajabdeen told The Sunday Times FT that they have initiated this action on the eve of the visit to Jordan by a powerful government cum business delegation led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to attend the World Economic Forum in Jordan from May 18 to 20.
The Sri Lankan delegation will also look for areas for export like apparel, spices, tea, cut flowers vegetable, indoor plants, gems and jewellery, rubber and other commodities. The 20-member delegation of from Sri Lankan chambers has already been named and it will be led by the FCCISL President. The government delegation will include 10 cabinet ministers who are attending the WEC.

The meeting will also be a focal point for communication between the Middle East and the West on issues ranging from political and economic subjects to social and moral questions. Political development and security issues in the region will also be high on the agenda. The theme for this year’s global forum is "Putting Diversity to Work". Sessions will focus on strategic business planning in the region, the creation of a social environment supportive of managed change, as well as international relations and the prospects of peace |
