CIMA to host discussion on macro
economic framework of 10-year vision
CIMA Sri Lanka Division is presenting a workshop critique on the Macro Economic Framework of the 10-year Horizon Development Framework 2006 – 2016 Discussion Paper of the Mahinda Chintana – Vision for a New Sri Lanka on May 19 at the CIMA Sri Lanka Division auditorium.
CIMA said the discussion will focus on the assumptions, strategies and expected outcomes of the macro economic framework of the governments’ 10 year development plan. This is the third in a series of discussions held by CIMA on key areas of national importance in relation to the economic development of the country.
In February 2007, CIMA hosted a discussion attended by professionals, academics and intellectuals on the 10-year plan presented to the parliament by the Ministry of Finance and Planning. The Development Framework was discussed from industrial and infrastructure development, education, private sector, macro economic, conflict resolution, regional development and human resource development perspectives. The salient points of the Development Framework were presented to the gathering by Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Governor of the Central Bank.
The workshop critique on May 19 will focus on the macro economic assumptions underlying the development framework, the strategies proposed to strengthen the macro economic environment and the expected outcomes.
The panellists will be Dr. H.N. Thenuwara, Assistant Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Dr. Harsha De Silva, Executive Director, LIRNEAsia, Professor W.D. Lakshman, Senior Professor, Department of Economics, University of Colombo, B. Abeygunawardene, Director General, Department of National Planning of the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Johanna Boestel, Country Economist, Sri Lanka Resident Mission of the Asian Development Bank, and Dr. Muthukrishna Sarvanandan, Principal Researcher, Point Pedro Institute of Development. The sessions will be chaired by Chandra Jayaratne, former Chairman of Eagle Insurance Ltd. |
