It was excellent cricket, but did Gilchrist cheat?

I do not intend to dispute the fact that the Australians played excellent cricket throughout the tournament and richly deserved the championship. My question is regarding the legality of what Gilchrist did; i.e. putting a squash ball in his glove to help him get a better grip of his bat. Obviously this gave him an undue advantage, which I feel is wrong.

In the past too players have resorted to various gimmicks only to be reprimanded by the authorities.

Therefore, in this instance too, I think our Board should press the ICC to inquire into this matter, not because we lost, but for the simple reason that cheating cannot and should not be condoned irrespective of the colour of the skin of the wrong-doer.

Incidentally, I am surprised by the deafening silence on the part of Ian Chappell and Michael Holding on this matter. These two ‘experts’ were suggesting that there was something fishy when we rested players. I hope they will have the guts to speak up on the right or the wrong of Gilchrist’s action.
