Counterfeit Dettol plasters seized in Kandy

In a rare case counterfeit Dettol plasters have been seized. On Thursday Additional Magistrate - Kandy, Jayaki De Alwis issued a search warrant under the Intellectual Property Act on an application made by Reckitt and Coleman (Overseas) Ltd, UK directing the Kandy police to conduct a raid at a Kandy premises. Reckitt, the owners of the Dettol brand through their local agents Reckitt Benckiser Lanka Ltd, said they had received information that an organized group was manufacturing counterfeit Dettol products and more specifically Dettol plasters which are mainly used by small children.

Since this could cause a serous effect to consumers, Reckitt carried out further investigations and found where counterfeit Dettol plasters were being sold for commercial purposes.

The raid was carried out and a large quantity of counterfeit Dettol plasters was seized.

Lawyer Kalinga Indatissa appeared for the complainant company with attorneys’ Chandima Atapattu, Rohana Muthumala and Sampath Vitharana instructed by Sujith Kariyawasam.
