NEW DELHI, Saturday (AFP) - Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh underwent prostate surgery today to remove a benign growth and was recovering well, his office said.
The operation on the 75-year-old prime minister was performed at the country's premier hospital, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, in the Indian capital.
“The prime minister is convalescing after the surgery and has had a stable post-operative course,” the office said in a statement.
Singh would be released from hospital on Monday. “There is nothing to worry. His health is fine,” the prime minister's media adviser Sanjaya Baru told reporters.
The prostate enlargement was non-cancerous, said hospital officials.“It is age-related enlargement of the prostate, which is non-cancerous. It is the benign prostate and the operation was done through endoscopy,” a hospital official said. |
