T-20 EXPRESS - exclusive

Staged just a few months after the World Cup where we reached the finals and a few weeks ahead of England’s tour of Sri Lanka, the Twenty-20 World Cup in South Africa has given our cricketers, and those of most other countries, something to think about.

Is over coaching bane of Sri Lankan junior cricket?

It is a very human habit to forget problems at hand and get distracted by the current newsmakers till the problem will swing back once again and hit you harder than before. For the last few seasons we have been pointing fingers at the custodians of our junior cricket and shouting our throats dry saying “Hey! Look here the building is collapsing”.

Murali will be ready to take a crack at Shane Warne’s record
Ace spinner Muttiah Muralitharan may be fit to play the final two One Day Internationals against England who are due in Sri Lanka next month. “He has got a muscle tendon junctia tear. I saw on him Friday. His injury is healing quickly and we will be doing another scan next week. But I would advise against rushing him back in especially in view of the fact that he is in a position to break Shane Warne’s world record for the most number of wickets in tests,” said famed orthopedic surgeon David Young.

‘MASTER BLASTER’ does it again
Sanath Jayasuriya made his second half-century in two days as Sri Lanka eased to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over New Zealand in their Twenty20 World Cup match in Johannesburg on Saturday.
