Lanka told ‘No KP here’
A three- member official delegation from Sri Lanka that flew to Bangkok after reports of the arrest of Tiger guerrilla procurement head Kumaran Pathmanathan (KP) has returned to Colombo with only a declaration from Thai authorities that he has not been "arrested."
 
Prime slot at UN, but big price and big questions

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has got the traditional prime-time speaking slot on the opening day of this year's United Nations General Assembly sessions, being the first speaker in the afternoon. Sri Lanka has long been the recipient of this slot. Traditionally, the US President also gets an opening day address. Both President Rajapaksa and President George Bush will speak on Tuesday, September 25.

 

UNP goes to pola today

Opposition UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday announced the launch of a non-violent direct action campaign against the government starting today titled Dukha Nivana Aragalaya. Their first act today will be to distribute anti-government propaganda material at Sunday polas (fairs) throughout the country, to be followed by a call for mobile phone users not to use their phones ......
