Air Chief to brief Govt MPs on MiG deal

Air Force Commander Roshan Gunathilake, is to next week brief the Government Parliamentary Group on the procurement of MiG-27 aircraft from Ukraine.

The move follows a directive from Defence Ministry Secretary Lt. Col. (retd.) Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. A Defence Ministry official said the idea was to get the Government MPs prepared to respond when Opposition MPs raise issue over the controversial procurement deal.

Air Force Chief is expected to detail out the usefulness of MiG-27s and why they needed it.
