New head of Dentistry Academy installed

Prof. R.L.Wijeyeweera was installed as the new president of the Sri Lanka Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry and Cosmetic Dentistry for 2007/2008 at a ceremony held during the third annual aesthetic conference jointly organized by the Academy and the South Asian Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry.

Prof. Wijeyeweera is the former Dean of the Faculty of Dental Sciences and the first Professor of Periodontics in Sri Lanka. Asian Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry president Dr.Robert H.Dharma from Indonesia, South Asian Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry president Dr.Susil Koirala from Nepal and experts in aesthetic dentistry from India, Malaysia and Sri Lanka delivered special lectures and conducted workshops on advanced aesthetic dentistry at the conference.

The conference was inaugurated at Hotel Tourmaline, Kandy by Peradeniya University Vice Chancellor Prof. Harischandra Abeygunawardena. Addressing the gathering Prof. Wijeyeweera said he would do his best to work together with the Asian Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry and the South Asian Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry towards the benefit of the patients in this part of the world to give them the best treatment possible. The Sri Lankan Academy of Aesthetic and Cosmetic Dentistry was formed in 2001.

Kamboree at Pallekelle

A scout camp titled ‘Kamboree 2007’ was conducted at Pallekelle to commemorate a century of scouting of the Kandy District Scouts Association.

Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake who was the chief guest said that scouting was ideal for training youth towards being good citizens and disciplining them for the future. Scouts from Maldives, Bangladesh, Pakistan and India were among 978 scouts at this camp.

The District Scout Commissioner K.P.Mataraarachci said that since the take-over of the Scouts Headquarters at Bogambara without even compensation being paid, there was no permanent place for the headquarters. He requested the Chief Minister to go into this matter and find a solution.

Among those who attended the camp were Chief Scout Commissioner C.Batuwangala, Asia Pacific Regional Representative Abdulla Rasheed, Headquarters Commissioner Sarath Kumarasinghe, National Training Commissioner Santha Madurawe and the Central Province Commissioner Ranjith Chandrasekera. Certificates and awards were presented at the camp.
