Four schools already in quarter finals

The two sessions of the first day’s play of the Lemonade Invitation inter-schools Six a Side cricket tournament organized by the Old Wesleyites Sports (OWSC) at Campbell Park saw some calypso style batting.

Peterite Angelo Perera who blasted an unbeaten 68 inclusive of ten boundaries and four towering sixes took the honours in the first session which helped his side to amass a score of 100 against St Sebastian’s in the allotted five overs of batting giving them a comfortable victory.

But that was short-lived as Ananda’s Dinesh Chandimal cracked a quick fire 72 with ten boundaries and two sixes out of his sides score of 79 against Zahira in the evening session which enabled Ananda to advance to the quarter finals.
The morning session of play saw Zahira, Ananda, St Joseph’s, Joseph Vaz, Piliyandala Central, Wesley and Basilica cruise through to the second round with wins over Isipathana, DSS, Lumbini, Prince of Wales, Holy Cross, Dharmasoka and St Benedict’s.

While in the evening session Kalutara MV, De Mazenod, Ananda and Piliyandala Central who played their second matches recorded wins over Zahira, St Peter’s, CWW Kannangara MMV and Karandeniya MMV. The tournament will continue today at 8.00 a.m.
