UNPer raises privilege issue over white van slur

Kurunegala district UNP MP Akila Viraj Kariawasam raised a privilege issue in Parliament on Tuesday charging that the state media were attempting to tarnish him and opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.

He said the state media were using an incident in which a security officer assigned to him was involved in a brawl to show there was complicity between the UNP and the “white van’ terror in the country.

The Speaker said he would look into the incident.
