CEB unions oppose vehicle gift to outgoing GM

Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) trade unions are opposing a Cabinet move to allow outgoing CEB general manager D. R. Pullaperuma to take his official vehicle on his retirement, despite a Treasury circular stipulating that official vehicles cannot be gifted to individuals.

Minister of Power and Energy John Seneviratne, however, says Mr. Pullaperuma deserves to be given his vehicle because he has served the CEB for 40 years.

Meanwhile, CEB trade unions have sent a letter to President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Power and Energy Minister and the CEB board, saying Mr. Pullaperuma was liable for disciplinary action, according to findings in the Auditor General’s Report 2006, for allegedly failing to properly implement a tariff revision and causing the CEB to suffer steady losses of revenue.
