'Thomian Nite', agarnd dinner dance in aid of Bishop Chapman Memorial Scholarship Fund, will come alive on November 7 at Cinnamon Grand Hotel from 9.00pm onwards.
According to the honorary Secretary of the S. Thomas' College Old Boys' Association, Sri Sangabo Corea, 'Thomian Nite' takes precedence over all other events in the OBA calendar since it is a prestigious and eagerly awaited event designed to raise funds for scholarships offered in the name of the school's illustrious founder, The Rt. Rev. James Chapman, the first Bishop of Colombo.
The Bishop Chapman Memorial Scholarship Fund, inaugurated in 1963 is a fitting tribute to that outstanding scholar of King's College, Cambridge and master of Eton, who moulded S. Thomas' College on the esteemed traditions of Eton. The College motto, Esto Perpetua, was an Eton legend introduced to S. Thomas' at the very inception.
Thomian Nite will be at the Cinnamon Grand this year on Friday, November 7 from 9.00 p.m. to sunrise. Amongst the many specialties put together by the organizing committee is a power-packed aggregate of superlative Thomian talent on the bandstand with Sohan leading the X' Periments, 'Sudu' leading Ultimate and with Vijaya Corea as master of ceremonies.
The Oak Room at Cinnamon Grand will be transformed into an atmosphere that will be handled with professional skill in order to create the desired mood for the occasion. There will be many unique features to support the organizing committee's advertising claim that it is 'Better than the Best' so far. Every table will have all that is essential with the compliments of the OBA and winding up with a breakfast put together in Cinnamon Grand style.
The Raffle and the draw on entrance tickets will include air tickets and electrically powered household appliances.
This will be the only item of expenditure at Thomian Nite 2008 with everything else being included in the ticket. What will be most conspicuous is the electrifying Thomian atmosphere, says the organizing committee. Thickets priced at Rs. 3,999 will be available with Ranil Goonetilleke (0772465980), Tusita De Alwis (0723276502) and at the STC OBA Secretariat (0775823753).
