Once long, long ago in a city in Japan, a sad
occurrence took place.
Bombs were thrown from
helicopters. Then all the schools were given a sudden holiday.
In a pre-school too,
children had this sudden
holiday, and their teacher asked them to go home, but they didn't. It's because they had a friend who was
suffering from Polio.
That teacher took the opportunity to keep that child safe from danger. When the other
children went home the teacher held that child and came out. Then suddenly, a bomb fell on to the teacher's head and they both died.
In remembrance of that teacher's love, kindness,
concern and friendship, a day for teachers was
established. Teachers are our second mothers and fathers.
They make tremendous
sacrifices to teach children.
The teacher is really happy when she sees the progress of the child. They do not expect presents from children. Teachers are very conscious of their duty towards the
children they teach.
On Teachers Day,
children worship, give
presents to their teachers and wish them for their future prosperity and good health.

I like reading a lot. It is my hobby. I read a lot of books, newspapers and
magazines.
When I return from school, I read story books, and in the weekends I enjoy reading Funday Times.
I like to read English as well as Sinhala books.
My favourite authors are
Roald Dahl and Enid Blyton. Dahl takes me to meet wonderful strange characters in his imaginary world. There are medicines made of unbelievable things, magical sweets and
marvellous animals in his books.
Goblins, fairies, witches, pixies and giants are found in the wonder worlds of
Enid Blyton. Her detectives are also very exciting.
I meet our ancestors, brave kings, lovely queens when I read history books.
I wander in forests, deserts, sky, oceans and the whole universe, meeting
various kinds of animals, birds and people while
reading.
I get much knowledge and mental satisfaction by reading. It is a great help for my school work.

My teacher Miss Nilushi Fernando is a charming lady. She is very kind and teaches us very well. She is always cheerful and rarely gets angry.
She explains
lessons in a simple and easy way. She is always eager to help her pupils. She tells us how to behave as children. She makes us learn by using charts and toys.
I am really glad that she is my class teacher. I like her because she is a
lovable teacher who treats all of us alike.
I wish her a bright future and may
God bless her. |
