Police arrest 42 persons on Hantana estate

By Shane Seneviratne

Forty-two persons found on the premises of the tea factory of Hantana estate were taken into custody yesterday after a joint search operation conducted by the Army and the Kandy Police.

Police said the arrested persons, three of whom were women, had failed to provide valid documents to prove they were residents of the area. Some of them had come from the North and the East.

A total of 150 police officers and 100 army personnel took part in the search operation.
