The Sri Lanka Tea Board together with Sri Lankan tea companies participated at the 12th International Exhibition for Food, Drink, Hospitality, Food Service, Bakery and Retail Industry (FHC) in Shanghai.
The Sri Lanka booth comprised Regency Teas (Pvt) Ltd (Hyleys), Euro Scan Exports (Pvt) Ltd (Mlesna Tea), Mabroc Teas (Pvt) Ltd (Mabroc Tea), Amazon Trading (Pvt) Ltd (Amazon Tea) and Stassen Exports Ltd. (Stassen Tea) Companies such as Sunny Life Enterprises (Jafferjee Tea), Tri-global International Ltd (Akbar Tea) and Vesto International Ltd. (Kings Tea) had their own stalls at the fair. Except for Euro Scan Exports (Pvt) Ltd and Amazon Trading (Pvt) Ltd the rest of the companies were represented by the local agent in China, according to a Tea Board statement.

The FHC attracted over 20,000 trade visitors, 807 exhibiting companies from 85 countries and regions with 12 national pavillions. “This exhibition is a good venue for sourcing new products as well as an indicator to the size and potential of the food, hospitality and retail market,” the statement said.

It said during the exhibition Sri Lankan companies had many inquiries and received a number of positive responses to increase their market share in Eastern China. Participating companies were encouraged by the enthusiastic response they received from the visitors to the Sri Lanka booth.

On the sidelines of FHC, meetings were organised with Shanghai Tea Trade Association and Shanghai Tea Studies Association. Discussion centered on matters pertaining to the tea industry and methods to improve sales in Eastern China.
