Forests are being cut down at an alarming rate throughout the world, and no one is bothered.
Over the last 50 years, the oxygen content of air has dropped by 30 percent. Forests absorb carbon dioxide and give out oxygen. In Brazil, a forest area equivalent in size to a small American state is cut down for timber every year. In most other countries, very few forests are left. In 50 years’ time, most of the forests would have disappeared and humans and wildlife will be seriously affected.
The United Nations should take action to make all countries safeguard their forests and allow the cutting down of trees only for urgent development projects.
