Lankan tea exporters invited for Hong Kong Tea Fair

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) is inviting Sri Lankan tea exporters to attend its first International Tea Fair, to access Hong Kong's large domestic tea market and also tea markets in China.

The HKTDC, a Hong Kong government-private sector partnership, is the international marketing arm for Hong Kong-based businesses. Its latest international marketing event, the International Tea Fair, will be held alongside the Hong Kong annual Food Expo from August 13- 15 this year. The HKTDC says the Tea Fair could be the route into the growing Chinese market.

"Hong Kong is directly linked with the Pearl River delta, which is richest region in mainland China. China has 200 million middle class people looking to buy more imported food items and luxury items. China is now the second largest consumer of luxury goods in the world," said Sales Manager, HKTDC, Josephine Lam, at a press conference this week.

"So the Hong Kong Tea Fair is an ideal spring board to access China and it is very, very easy for Sri Lankan companies to come to Hong Kong. We will also give incentives to buyers from major tea buying countries to come for the event. So there will be opportunities to expand business with other countries as well," said Ms Lam.
