Objectionable race horse back on track

The controversially named British racehorse “Buddhist Monk” was in the news once again when it took part in a race in Doncaster, England, yesterday.

“Buddhist Monk” ran in the 5.05 Williamhill.com Play Bingo Handicap (Class 4) for four-year-olds and upwards. He was ridden by star jockey J. Crowley. The racehorse was slotted at 16-1. The result of the race was not known at the time of printing.

Some time back, when the racehorse came to the attention of Buddhists in Sri Lanka, the Foreign Ministry said it would raise objections to the use of the name “Buddhist Monk” with the owners of the racehorse and those associated with it. So far, no action has been taken.
