Mr. Karu Jayasuriya is being strongly promoted as the person to take over the leadership of the United National Party.

That will be a fine thing. When he was a deputy leader of the party, he took 16 Members of Parliament over to the other side – and came back alone.

A leader should do better than that to prove his leadership – he should take at least 32 MPs and leave them on the other side.
