It was a beautiful evening of entertainment and relaxation for music fans and their families when this year’s Country Roads concert took off at the Dutch Burgher hall in Thunmulla last Sunday.

The carnival type concert was in full swing with the audience happily settled on mats and chairs on the DBU lawn enjoying the music while the kids had fun with pony rides, games and face painting, when the evening showers came down.
Yet, after a brief interruption as everyone moved into the hall, the musicians played on and it was clear the rain could not dampen the spirit of this annual charity show organised by the Country Music Foundation which has worked tirelessly over the years to raise funds for needy children.
CMF was partnerd by Save the Children (UK) and supported by Dialog, Cargills Food City, SriLankan airlines, Lite FM and The Sunday Times while many others also chipped in to support this worthy cause.
The audience was treated to the country western and folk music of Anno Domini, Flame, Cosmic Rays, the Country Revival Band and Mariazelle. British folk singer Astrid Brook making her third appearance at Country Roads won many fans with her silky renditions of popular hits.
Kumar de Silva’s fabulous compering spiced up the event and competitions for the Best Dressed Cowboy and Cowgirl Beer Drinking and barbecue stalls kept the fun going all through the evening.
