The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) will contest the Northern Province polls, according to TNA Parliamentarian K. Thurairetnasingam.
Legislation for conducting the polls in the province will be discussed in Parliament on April 20.
The legislation will empower the Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils to fix dates for calling nominations for the the Municipal Councils, Urban Councils and Pradeshya Sabhas in the Northern Province.
Once Parliament approves the amendments, the minister will be required to gazette a date not later than 10 months from the date on which the Bill was passed.
