Maldives, new member of ILO

The Republic of Maldives has become the newest member of the International Labour Organization (ILO), the UN agency that deals with work and workplace issues.

The membership came into force on May 15 when Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed submitted a letter to Juan Somavia, Director-General of the ILO, containing the formal acceptance by the Maldives of the obligations of the Constitution of the ILO.
