Boldly going where no Sri Lankan band has gone before, Thriloka - a band that has a continuously growing fan base - has taken up the challenge of performing alongside an orchestra.
The concert titled Thrilogy, will be interesting to say the least. Thriloka plays a fusion of traditional folk music, ragas, progressive rock, jazz harmonies and funk grooves.
Owing to their diverse influences in music, each of the five members that make up Thriloka, contribute a unique sound in creating their scintillating concoction of music.
Couple their music with an 18 piece orchestra and you will be in for an evening of mind blowing music. The Contemporary Chamber Orchestra conducted by Manilal Weerakoon, will pervade the quintessential classical sound of an orchestra through the psychedelic rhythms characteristic of Thriloka.
As the band name suggests, Thriloka means three worlds - heaven, earth and hell. The sounds produced by the band have a distinctive element of each world. Their music can be described as soothing, aggressive, and everything in between the two.
Having teamed up with M-Entertainment, Thriloka will be officially launching their album ‘Bisura’ (which translates into “Realm of higher listening”) at the concert. Songs performed at the concert will be originals and the tracks will be mostly those featured in the album. The performing as a guest, will be Ranil Goonewardane, who has been working with Thriloka on one of their songs.
Thrilogy is presented by Fusion Dhayan Arts Circle, and will be held at the Bishop’s College Auditorium of Friday 12 June at 7:30pm. Tickets are priced at Rs. 800 and Rs.600 can be booked by calling 077315711 or 0775554848. Print media sponsor for the event is the Sunday Times.
