Victor Ratnayake and Nanda Malini are singers of the highest calibre. Their careers have spanned many decades and they are regarded as icons of Sri Lankan classical music.
All the songs are arranged for voice and orchestra by Ananda Dabare, who will conduct the concert. Ananda began as an oriental violinist before studying western music and has a strong affinity for both musical traditions.
The orchestra will also perform two popular works from the western classical repertoire – the overtures to Glinka’s ‘Ruslan and Ludmilla’ and Johann Strauss II’s ‘Die Fledermaus’.
The SOSL, as Sri Lanka’s only Symphony Orchestra, encourages and recognizes Sri Lankan composers and soloists, and reaches out with good music to serious music lovers. It is hoped this concert will provide a cultural bridge of discovery for followers of western classical music and of classic Sinhala art song.
