Asian Aviation students excel in academic studies

Asian Aviation Centre (AAC), the premier Aeronautical Engineering and Flying Academy in Sri Lanka, held its Annual Academic Awards Ceremony recently at the Banquet Hall in BMICH.

One hundred and thirty three students from the Engineering Academy and the Flight Academy received awards and certificates on this day. The occasion was graced by the Secretary to the Ministry of Ports and Aviation, Mr. Ranjith De Silva as Chief Guest. Among the recipients of awards were six Engineering students who completed 2 years of study and are qualified to proceed to Kingston University London to complete their BEng (Hons) Degree programme in Aerospace, Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Design.

These BEng (Hons) degree programmes conducted by AAC in affiliation with the Kingston University of London, UK are accredited towards Incorporated Engineer Status of UK Engineering Council.

Furthermore, nine students who successfully completed the Foundation Degree in Aircraft Engineering programme also received their certificates. This full programme is conducted in Sri Lanka with the Kingston University. All nine students have opted to proceed to Kingston University to complete the one-year top-up programme and obtain the BEng (Hons) in Aircraft Engineering Degree. Out of 14 students who joined the BEng (Hons) in Aircraft Engineering Degree programme last September, seven students obtained First Class degrees making their parents and academic staff at AAC proud.

The following special achievements were also recognized at the Awards Ceremony.
The award for Best Final Year student in Foundation Degree in Aircraft Engineering Course was given to Vishwajith Rambukella.

The award for Best student in TAFE Certificate in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Mechanical Level 4 (Theory) Course was given to Nuwan Malinda Kaluarchchi. M.F. Sheriffdeen and W.J. Lakmal Peiris were selected as the Best students in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Course and shared the challenge trophy for the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Course.

Furthermore, ten former AAC students who received First Class Hons Degrees in Aerospace Engineering Design and Automotive Engineering Design programmes from Kingston University were given special awards of recognition.
