Originating as a mere dream in the minds of two students, the Youth Music Council has made steady progress, since its inauguration on March 3, 2009, in becoming a reality and establishing itself as an organization dedicated to uplifting the standards of music while empowering young musicians of Sri Lanka.
The Youth Music Council, which is a student based organization where administration is handled purely by students of the member schools, was established for the purpose of empowering, inspiring and supporting young musicians of Sri Lanka.
It currently consists of members from the Classical Music Association of S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia, the Western Music Society of Bishop’s College, the Western Music Association of Nalanda College, and the Music Circle of Ladies’ College.
After successfully conducting the inaugural project of the Youth Music Council, which was the Western Music practical seminar held in June for music students sitting the Ordinary Level Examination this year, the members are once more in the process of organizing yet another music seminar.
This seminar will be based on theory and will cover all sections included in the curriculum. The seminar will be conducted from 8am-4pm on September 19, at the Main Hall of S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia. Mrs. Shanthi Bandara, head of the Music Unit at the Education Department and other reputed teachers from schools affiliated with the Youth Music Council will be lecturing at the seminar. A booklet consisting of model papers based on the new syllabus will be available for purchase and orders can be placed by contacting Upendra – 0755395836 or Roshan – 0779625961, or via ymc_09@live.com
