Three stages for National School Games

The National School Games 2009 has been scheduled to be held by the education ministry in a 3 stage format. 11 sports each has already been held in stage 1 and 2 (22 in all) and the 3rd stage will host the athletic events from 23-27 September at the Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo.

More than 13,000 participants took part in stages 1 and 2 and nearly 2640 sportsmen and 2440 sportswomen are due to participate in the athletic events of stage 3.

They will be representing more than 1040 schools from all regions of the island.

Special mention must be given to nearly 550 athletes who will be competing from the Northern Province representing 105 schools and the athletes from the Eastern Province from about 120 schools with close to 600 athletes representing them.

It must be mentioned too that meals and train tickets have been provided to nearly 20,000 athletes and teachers in charge of the schools which took part in stages 1 and 2.
