ART Television Broadcasting Company and Cartoon Network, in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka, in a new communication initiative held an eco awareness campaign aimed at children between the ages of 6 – 14 years in Kandy on September 12, 2009.
The event was aimed at
promoting awareness and to
educate children on the
importance of creating an
environmental friendly society through the creative medium of art.
This recent partnership between Cartoon Network and ART Television in September was followed by the promotion of this Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The Eco Art Competition was open to 130 schools in the Kandy District and was facilitated by the Ministry of Education – held at the scenic Kandy City Centre Complex.
This was the first time an
international kids channel, Cartoon Network, was involved in providing a local CSR message in Sri Lanka and proved to be a truly novel event.
With over 1,200 participants, the children were able to watch episodes of Cartoon Network's popular
cartoons before the commencement of the art competition. Art work was judged by a panel from the Aesthetic Division of the Ministry of Education, lead by Mr. Thushara Gunathilaka – Director Aesthetic Division.
