The art of creating still photographs and capturing a memory continue to fascinate and challenge both the novice and the professional. Despite the transition from film to digital and with new innovations emerging constantly, photography is a passion favoured by many people.
Here’s the opportunity to learn the basics from the experts as the Photographic Society of Sri Lanka holds its beginners’ course this October.
These classes, which are open to people of all ages, will teach elements of photography such as composition, shutter control, aperture control as well as processing, storage and much more.
Mithra Weerakone, President of the Photographic Society of Sri Lanka, explained that a good photograph should consist of core aspects such as superior composition and colour balance and added that essentially, it should convey a message and strike a chord in the viewer.
“It was the start of it all,” said Chinthaka Thenuwara, a photographer who attended the beginners’ course adding that anyone enthusiastic about learning the fundamentals of photography would greatly benefit from it. While engaging in photography of all styles, conceptual and art photography is a particular favourite of his.
Chinthaka has been following a career in photography for the past four years.
The beginners’ course in photography will begin on October 10 and consists of 10 classes, of which two are field trips. The course fee is Rs. 8000 and the closing date for enrolment is October 7. Those interested could contact the Photographic Society of Sri Lanka on 4901837.
