‘The Life of Songs- Dalreen’ , a concert by singing sensation Dalreen, will come alive at the Ballroom of the Galadari Hotel on October 18 from 7.30pm.
Joining Dal on the music journey will be the Gypsies, Aquarius along with Geoffrey Fernando of Purple Rain fame, Sunil Perera, Rajitha (Misty) Gavin Senn, Kevin Almeida, Melantha Perera of Mirage fame, Mariazelle and Shyami Fonseka.
Dal will be doing a mixture of songs from pop, country rock, blues and some great old songs that are now back again with a new look and also some of her popular Sinhala songs.
Dal will sing some popular songs from Tina Turner, Anne Murray, Beatles, Millie Jackson, Tawny Wynette and Olivia Newton John.
Geoffrey will sing sounds of Barry White, while Kevin Almeida doing a tribute to Michael Jackson. Rajitha will sing songs from Neil Diamond and band Aquarius will stick to their ever popular repertoire from the Margarita Blue with Shiran, Danu and Ray in the vocal spotlight.
‘I will be doing a duet with Sunil’ she said.
Once again she has selected the band Gypsies to be her show band. ‘They are very professional and play great music especially they know how to accompany an artiste. The main reason is they are a very nice set of guys and leader Sunil Perera who has supported me during my career as a singer. He is the one , who has given me the encouragement to do this concert and I work with only the best’ she explained.
Dalreen has worked with Aquarius and its leader Benji in Doha, Qatar on a contract.
That’s why I want them to be on my show. I think Aquarius is one of the popular bands in the current music scene.
Dalreen seems quite an enigma, there is confidence in her that is born of the tremendous success she has achieved, and coupled with a kind of vulnerability that is touchingly disarming. There is the little lost girl smile that has sent fans raving, running side by side with the mature woman-of-the-world look that is equally delightful.
With her moderated ego she said ‘it is a good feeling to know that I am loved by my own people, as the success I have achieved all over the world means nothing, without the appreciation of my own country’
Her most unforgettable experience singing-wise was her first tour abroad to Vietnam with the group ‘The Savages’ singing for the American troops battling the war. Her music was a kind of solace that uplifted their lives.
This will be her second concert. ‘The Life of Songs part -1 was held in 2004.
‘The Life of Songs part -2 is sponsored by Dialog , Galadari Hotel and Singer.
