The good doctor of Wellawatte will be greatly missed

Dr. S. Sathasivam

The sudden death of Dr. S. Sathasivam of Wellawatte in November 2008 left many of his patients stranded – they depended so much on him. The people of Wellawatte lost not only an excellent and devout doctor but also a kind, cheerful and generous friend.

His patients from Vihare Lane, the lower income-earners, benefited tremendously from his generosity. Consultation and medication was dispensed without any charge to them. The doctor also found time to spend time with them and advise them.

Monetary gain was not the doctor’s priority. Curing the sick and making his patients comfortable were his goals. Whoever went into his room for a consultation came out with a smile. That was the nature of Dr. Sathasivam’s care. He put his patients at ease, and cheered and consoled them when they were low. Every patient was special to him, and the kind and good doctor treated his patients likewise.

Dr. Sathasivam, the son of a proprietary planter from Pussellawa, lived a quiet life with his supportive and cheerful wife and daughter. He was very happy with the son who joined the family a short time before his death. The family must surely miss his excellent cooking, a hobby he was very proud of.

Our family and many of our friends to whom we introduced the doctor really and truly miss him. He will never slip away from our memory.

May the Lord watch over him.

Mr. & Mrs. Nihal Wijetunga
