What started as a passion for Nilanka Silva at the age of sixteen has become a career for this young designer. She strives to maintain exclusive and one-of-a-kind designs in her store. Claiming that she never applies the same design on a dress, sari or top twice, Nilanka stresses that she prefers her designs to be unique.
Her boutique La’ Sari has been running successfully for nearly a year now and it targets an audience of young and adult women who are interested in exclusive designs. She designs her saris, dresses and tops by herself.
The saris displayed are made of pure silk satin. In addition, the five casual tops come in cotton and georgette and the dresses in cotton and batik silk. She uses materials such as cotton, silks, georgette and linen for her clothes. Sequins and stones are sewn onto the already dyed batik dresses. She also stated that her dresses are usually sewn with plain or printed material and she sews the sequins and stones on by herself.
Nilanka went on to add that she is looking to expand her store in the near future. She studied pattern making and grading at the Brandix College of Clothing Technology two years ago.
La’ Sari is located at No.107/34, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7.
