Country’s oldest television station Independent Television Network or popularly known as ITN initiated another premier move with the launch of English television and radio channels under the name of ‘Prime’.
Prime TV and Prime Radio were launched on Thursday, November 12 at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike International Conference Hall at a gala ceremony with music and dance.
A timely move, ‘Prime TV’ is to bring both education and entertainment while promoting the English language among the Sri Lankan viewers.
ITN Chairman Anura Siriwardena initiated the mammoth task without any government funds but with purely what the institution had generated over the years.
“Our line up of progress step by step, introducing, Lakhanda Radio channel, Vasanthan FM, Vasanthan TV and finally the Prime TV and Prime Radio channels which are on air from today completes our mission to cater to the multi ethnic population of thiscountry,” Mr. Siriwardena said addressing the gathering.
Veteran Indian journalist and presenter Vikrem Vail who was invited as a special guest addressed the gathering. ‘Prime TV will be an invaluable tool not only to Sri Lankans but to all of us in the subcontinent,’ Vikram added. While wishing all the best for the new channel he said ‘These channels will be helpful not only to inform but to go to the next domain of information era, education.
