A prayer for peace

Was it in May this year
That the guns fell silent?
And we welcomed peace
In happiness and celebration?
Can our memories be so short
That we have forgotten
The terror, the turmoil
And the bloodshed
Caused by upheavals in our country
Through so many years?
Or have our prayers begun again
This time a combined faith of all races –
That peace will prevail
No matter what takes place
In this Beloved Isle of ours. …
