I enjoyed reading Vijitha Anupriya’s letter, “Why do we turn a deaf ear to our indigenous music?” (Sunday Times, of December 13, 2009).
I look forward to listening to “Apata Vechcha-de”, the cassette of original Sinhala music.
It is heartening to know that we continue to remember and honour the great names of Sinhala music of yesteryear.
We owe much to singers like the late Suriya Sankara Molligoda and Sunil Santha, whose brilliant lyrics were set to music by such outstanding composers as Hubert Dissanayake, Munidasa Kumaratunge, Raphiel Tennakoon, Arisen Ahubudu and Gunapala Senadhira, to mention a few.
