A specialized financial institution will be set up soon to help in loan facilities to develop SMEs in Sri Lanka with the contribution of all the District Chambers of Commerce, it was announced recently.
This was stated by Anuradhapura District Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Officer P.B.Dissanayake at a meeting in Kandy involving officials of 28 District Chambers of Commerce. It was organized by Mr Dissanayake and the Central Province Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Officer A. Abeywickrema in an initiative supported by the Asia Foundation.
According to a statement from the joint chambers, Mr Dissanayake said that everyone who attended the discussion agreed to the suggestion for the need for a specialized financial institution to provide financial facilities to SMEs with the contribution of all the District Chambers of Commerce.
A committee was also appointed to carry out this project.
Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) Advisor Jinadasa Abeywickrema, Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Secretary General Haren Malwatte, Sujeewa Rathnakumara, Lanka Micro-Finance Network Limited Manager Bisowela Gunasekera, Central Province Commercial and Industrial Board Chairman Anuruddha Warnakula, Matara District Commercial and Industrial Board President and Proprietor, Nippolac Industries Raja Hewabowela and a large number of other officials were present at the discussion. |
