Prince of Wales tarnished Royal’s unbeaten record in the ongoing Munchee Youth 19 Inter-School cricket competition when they inflicted a nine wicket defeat on their opponents in their own den at Reid Avenue yesterday.
Royal put themselves in a soup on day one as they gave the Cambrians the upper hand. It was Cambrian Shehan Jayasuriya’s mammoth knock of 165 that laid the foundation for their victory.
His knock saw his side put up a formidable score of 304 for 9. Royal in their turn were made to struggle for their runs as they ended day one on 83 for 4 with two of their top batsmen Bhanuka Rajapakse and Kithruwan Withanage back in the pavilion.

The second day’s play saw Royal being unable to make any headway as right arm pacie Malshan Mendis ripped through to send them reeling to 124. Malshan in the process ended with impressive figures of 7 for 65.

DSS right arm spinner Malshan Gunasinghe shone at Jaffna against St. Patrick’s in Jaffna.
Malshan ended with a match bag of 13 for 72 helping DSS to record an easy innings and seven runs victory DSS after bowling out St. Patrick’s for 128 and ended the first day’s play on 192 for 6.
Resuming on day two they went on to make 246 for 9 before declaring with Wasuki Watakapotha making 51. St. Patrick’s batting the second needing 118 to avert an innings defeat was unable to achieve that being able to muster only 111 runs.
