‘Guru Geethaya’ is the thirty eighth teledrama of Bermin and it is to be a reflection of the present society which is corrupt and full of injustices. Based on a script by K. B. Herath, the teledrama is telecast on Sirasa TV every weekday at 10 from April 12 onwards.

‘It is one man’s courage to swim against the current when everybody around him including his family members deserts him and his principles’ said Bermin describing his teledrama with an interesting theme.

The story revolves around Gananatha, a teacher who is punished for the very reason of standing up for the truth. The teleplay starts with his interdiction from the school and series of difficulties he undergoes subsequently.

Gananatha is a name of an Indian god. He named his son, ‘Nakula’ a name of a god and his daughter ‘Thara’ again another name for god. But none of his children live up to his expectations and they also desert him at the very time of his troubles. Not only is he dismissed from his job but also attacked by the politicians and his goons.

While everything being lost he sticks to his principles and only his pupils and a Buddhist monk stand by him. Overcoming all odds Gananatha is able to achieve his ultimate goal of freedom.

Ranjan as Gananatha

‘The story of Guru Geethaya is very personal to me. Because I myself started my career as a teacher and having served as a teacher for 19 years, my service was terminated for speaking the truth’, Bermin said.
‘This is about a person who had greater goals in life and he is another Aravinda of Martin Wickremasinghe’s ‘Viragaya’’ said Bermin.

The teleplay stars Ranjan Ramanayake, Dilhani Ekanayake, Kanchana Mendia, Janak Premalal, Arjuna Kamalanath, Palitha Silva, Ajith Lokuge, Kumara Thirimadura, Nayana Kumari, Ashen Manjula, Nirosha Maithree, Chanchala Warnakulasuriya, Sandun Wijesiri, Nayana Rambukkanage, Swarna Ranasinghe, Premila Surangani and Kumudini Adikari.

Camera handled by Priyantha Perera and Pushpakumara Rajaguru and make up is by Thushara Jeewantha. To the music of Navaratna Gamage and lyrics of Ajantha Ranasinghe playback songs of ‘Guru Geethaya’ are sung by Amarasiri Peiries.
