It has become a practice of late for our politicians to visit holy places of different faiths to get special blessings. This was seen during the run-up to the recent elections.
We saw politicians at the Sri Maha Bodhiya, worshipping the Sacred Bo Tree. We were told that the politicians promise a free and fair election.
Unfortunately, we saw a spate of violence as politicians turned against each other, over the country. No arrests were made. What I wish to know from our erudite Buddhist scholars is whether Buddhist monks are in a position to “bless” others?
A blessing is a kind of benediction performed by a priest before God or a deity to protect the person who seeks such benediction.
Can Buddhists perform such a ritual?
