The Alliance Francaise de Colombo will present 'A Spring Recital', a programme of music by the Menaka Singers trained and directed by Menaka De Fonseka Sahabandu on Friday, May 7 at 7.30 p.m. at the Alliance Francaise Auditorium.
It will feature solos and ensemble by the senior singers of the choir, chosen from the Classical, Romantic and Modern repertoire. Works will include arias and art songs from Handel, Mozart, Donizetti, Debussy, Faure, Franck, Lehar and Bernstein.
The artistes are accompanied on the piano by Menaka De Fonseka Sahabandu.
Menaka, who holds a Fellowship from the Trinity College London for Voice and Piano and a Licentiate from the Royal Schools of Music for Voice and Piano is one of the leading piano and singing teachers in Sri Lanka. She is the founder and director of Menaka Singers, a mixed choir consisting primarily of singers trained by her.
The singers are prize winners for Trinity College London and Royal Schools of Music London. Many of her students pursue their studies in voice and opera in the USA and the UK. Menaka Singers have been the Guest Choir for the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka at many of their concerts.
