Last week there was uproar when the newly elected body cancelled their scheduled AGM and postponed it without a given date. There, the referees who were present, met the incumbent vice president Lasitha Gunaratne and gave an ultimatum that the referees would bury their whistles if their AGM is not held before 12 noon on 29th May.The then Interim Committee of Rugby Football, suspended the last committee of the SLSRFR in August 2009.
At the meeting held yesterday, once again Dilroy Fernando was unanimously elected as the President as Orville Fernando who also had given his nomination failed to turn up at the meeting.
Nizam Jamaldeen and Anil Jayasinghe were elected as the vice Presidents while Mahesha Senanayake was elected as its Secretary. Treasurer’s position went to Shamrath Fernando.
President elect Dilroy Fernando speaking to the Sunday Times said: “Finally we are happy that our society is back on its feet, elected in a democratic manner. There were some obstacles thrown at us at the meeting, but, we managed to overcome them and elected the Rugby Referees body properly. |
