Multi Chemi Chairman Samantha Kumarasinghe has raised issue with some sections in last week’s editorial titled “Jostling over CEPA”, refuting our statement that a government agency was behind the protest.
Referring to the following line in the editorial, “It is reliably learnt that a government agency orchestrated the move and brought in people from a state-sponsored youth movement for the protest”, he says in a letter that, “As a person who was actively involved in coordinating this protest, I confirm that the protest was not orchestrated by the government and there were no people from a state-sponsored youth movement at the protest.”
He said the petition handed over to the President itself provides good proof of the uninfluenced attempt of the protesters as it was signed by the people with their national ID numbers and their places of work or the profession.
Business Editor: We stand by our story. Organisers of the seminar on the 10th anniversary of the Indo-Lanka Free Trade pact have also informed us that Ceylon Biscuits Chairman Micky Wickremasinghe was not refused entry, as reported. |
