The recent reshuffle of Ministers by the Mahinda Rajapaksa government has created a most amusing situation, with the new ministers enlarging on the failures and lapses of the previous ministers, even when they hail from the same party! Prominent in this respect are the health and education ministries.
How wonderful!
Instead of telling his outspoken ministers to turn down the volume, the President should encourage them in this healthy trend of highlighting poor ministerial records and performance.
In fact, it might not be a bad idea to have another reshuffle of Ministers in a year’s time. This way, the Ministers will not only work extra hard, to avoid criticism, but also refrain from taking from the government kitty.
The President is an expert at knowing who is who’s enemy, so he will know exactly whom to choose to replace whom. This way, he can be sure of a genuinely hard-working, efficient and effective Cabinet, and he can sit back and enjoy the fruits of hard labour. And what surer way to win the next election!
