Will veteran Sanath Jayasuriya who lost his national cap after being dropped for the Asia Cup tournament lose his national contract too?
Though there were indications in this direction a spokesman for Sri Lanka Cricket declined to comment on it.
The national cricketer’s annual cricket contracts customarily signed by the SLC which expired at the end of March, still have not been signed.
The spokesman said that there has been dialogue between the two parties. It is the Players Association who customarily plays the role of go-between. They pointed out the reason for the delay has been the failure of senior players to attend the scheduled meetings on the matter.
However Spokesman for the Players Association Graeme Labrooy said on Friday “It was only about two hours ago that I received the counter proposals of the SLC on the contracts and it is now that I will have to go back to the players and get their feedback on the matter”.
The SLC spokesman explained that this time there would be a change in the schedule. Last year there were two segments of national players and ‘A’ team players. However this year there would be an increase of ten slots and there would be 30 national contracts and this would certainly include a host of young players.
