Kingswood tamed S. Thomas’ in their own den with a 22 points (two goals, one try and a drop goal) to 17 (two goals and a drop goal) victory in their Singer Under 20 Division 1A inter-school rugby match played at Mt Lavinia yesterday.
The winners led 22-5 at the breather.
The Thomians who are noted for their second half rally failed with their effort this time. Though they were able to deny the Kingswoodians any scoring opportunities in this session they too were only able to gather 12 points.
Kingswood took an early lead when fly half Lavanga Perera went over for an unconverted try in the 11th minute. Nine minutes later skipper and full back Rajitha Sansoni increased their lead with a drop goal and a minute later centre gave the Kingswoodians the upper hand by going over for a try with Sansoni adding the extra points.
It was late in this half that the seaside boys were able to put up the score in the board with playmaker and centre Anuruddha Wilwara going for an unconverted try. This was the final scoring before referee D. Nimal blew the short whistle.
The resumption saw the Thomians going in the attack and succeeding in the third minute when Wilwara went over for his second try which was converted by winger Devin Jayasinghe. The Thomians effort came too late as second rows Dinuk de Silva’s try in the dying stages saw the game ending in favour of the Kingswoodians. |
