Apropos of the President’s decision in regard to the post of Director of Information (“The problem is general”, Talk at the Café, Sunday Times, May 30, 2010.), bestowing bogus titles is a bureaucratic ploy to facilitate upward mobility, with higher remuneration. In bygone times, generals were found only in the military, certainly not in civic establishments.
The President has made a decision in order to avoid the unnecessary use of public funds. Bravo! A fragrant bouquet of flowers to you.
Please wipe out the disgraceful precedent from the entire public service, and remove the word “General” from the vocabulary of civil appointments. “Generals” belong only to the military.
