The access for good education is the most essential priority in building a stable career, but this priority in reality is hard to realize due to the inadequacy of financial resources. But the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL), the premier national accountancy body that has known well the heartbeat of Sri Lankans for the past 50 years makes a valiant effort to achieve the priorities of the future student generation by continuing its present scholarship programmes more broadly that favours its potential student body.
The ICASL at present has a number of scholarships that benefit students based on their respective needs and capabilities; these scholarships have been more predominantly implemented since year 2007 and presently around 200 students are benefited. There are three main scholarship programmes of the Institute; one being the L.A Weerasinghe Memorial Scholarship (in memory of ICASL founder president) is granted for 40 students per annum taking into consideration their examination performances and income standards. It is aimed at strengthening the student capability that needs to override their economic concerns.
The ICASL Merit scholarship is the other scheme which is provided for 12 students each year rewarding the talents possessed by them which needs to be commended. The Top Ten Awards is another unique scholarship scheme presented by ICASL for those who have championed themselves in the most arduous A/L examination; the top ten students of each four A/L streams are awarded this scholarship to undergo a complete educational voyage at the Institute which beyond doubt is a golden opportunity before them.
All scholarship schemes of ICASL provide the enviable opportunity for students to undergo education at the institute without being subjected to financial payments in return; and in case of the L.A Weerasinghe scholarship students would also be privileged of a financial guidance by the Institute.
A main reason for the scholarship programme is because economic positions and capabilities of families are always overridden by the right of young minds to receive proper competent education; the ICASL which has recognized this vitality has made the initiative of guaranteeing that moral right. The institute has given special consideration for North Eastern students under this programme and accordingly 20 deserving students from the region were benefited in 2009 through the scholarship scheme.
The ICASL is an internationally recognized accountancy qualification that has a strong chain of over 35,000 registered students that have followed the path of over 4,500 successful members who have benefited and excelled through ICASL accountancy education. The Institute is fully committed towards enhancing the potential bestowed in its students and programmes of this calibre make their intentions more vivid to the public. |
