Cantando tunes up to take the stage again

Now in its sixth year, the Cantando Cello Ensemble, a unique string ensemble comprising 15 cellists, most of whom are members of the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka is preparing for its annual concert in Colombo, at the Lionel Wendt on July 7.

This year, two cellists from Mumbai will be joining the group, as well as founder members from Australia, USA and London who are returning specially to play for this year's concert.

The programme includes an ingenious arrangement of Bach's Prelude and Fugue from solo cello suite No. 5, Beethoven's rondo from Symphony No. 7, a couple of Dvorak's Slavonic Dances and De Falla's ever-popular Ritual Fire Dance.

Among the evening's highlights will be soprano Maryanne David's performance as guest artiste together with the ensemble. In lighter vein, the ensemble will also perform some catchy ragtimes and a tango Box plan and tickets will be available at the Lionel Wendt.
