The issue of schoolbags was taken up at the sessions of the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) when Consultant Community Physician Dr. Kapila Jayaratne of the Family Health Bureau, Ministry of Health gave the SLMA oration 2010 on 'Ergonomic Factors of Educational Environments and Influence on School-going Early Adolescents'.
Dr. Jayaratne's pioneer public health sector research work led to a successful healthy schoolbag campaign at national level in Sri Lanka.
Monthly lecture of the Royal Asiatic Society
Dr. Hema Goonatilake will deliver the monthly lecture of the Royal Asiatic Society of Sri Lanka on "Laos and the Sinhalese Connections’ tomorrow, June 28 at 5 p.m., at the Gamini Dissanayake Auditorium of the Mahaweli Centre, No. 96, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Colombo 7.
The lecture is open to the public.

The Annual General Meeting of the Old Boys' Union of St. Peter's College will be held at the College Hall from 10.30 a.m. today, June 27.

National Sea Sunday Service
The Mission to Seafarers in Sri Lanka will celebrate the International Sea Sunday Service at St. Peter’s Church, Fort adjoining Police Headquarters and G.O.H. Hotel, on July 11 at 10 a.m.
Officers and ratings from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Police will attend this ceremonial service with additional colour being added by the Sri Lanka Navy brass band and Officer Cadets from the Cinec Maritime Campus and other institutions.
The Seafarers mission was founded in 1856 and has its headquarters in London. A network of chaplains serve in about 300 ports around the world.
Corpus Christi at
St. Lucia's Cathedral
The feast of Corpus Christi will be celebrated at St. Lucia's Cathedral Kotahena, Colombo 13, today June 27.
Holy Masses will be held at at 6.45 a.m. (English) 8. a.m. (Sinhala), and 9.15 a.m. (Tamil) while the Adoration will be from 10.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. with the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.
The Solemn Vespers at 4 p.m. will be presided over by the Archbishop of Colombo Dr. Malcolm Ranjith followed by the procession with the Blessed Sacrament.
The Archbishop will give the final blessings.
The Senior Western Choir of Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo taking part in the 8th Malaysian Choral Eisteddford in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from May 30 to June 5 returned home triumphant after winning a gold diploma in the Equal Voices category.
This is the first time a government school in Sri Lanka has participated in an international choral competition. The choir was trained by Sanjeev Jayaratnam. Ms. Vajira Nanayakkara was the teacher in charge.
